Mr Prahalad Muduli. My 1st kidney transplant patient in Odisha ( done on 9th June 2009. In Hitech Medical college Odisha )

It’s a long story. I will make it short one.

I have just arrived in Bhubaneswar in the month of June in 2009 with a long stint in CMC vellore from August 2000 to June 2009.

I received a call from nephrologist Dr S K Palit. He said will you one transplant which is ready posted , I was told that the surgeon who is supposed to come from Hyderabad/ Bangalore were not able to come on 6 th of June. 2009. I was informed. I was very sceptical in my mind as I had not operated even a small surgery in this new setup. How I will take up transplant surgery. Anyway I said I will come and see the pair for the transplant. Saw this humble boy Prahalad who is waiting for transplant and mother being the donor. I spoke to the family and specially the mother and told them I have done any surgery in this hospital and now I will take up your case. Instantly they said yes. May be there was a mix of suffering and desperation but I was fixed. As I was not sure of the support team and instruments. Above all I was very new to the city.

But I took the challenge and did a demo the day before and next day I was ready. We started the surgery 9 am and then finished by 1.30 pm. In the theatre I realised that I had to do both donor and recipient surgery. The scenario is very different in CMC vellore or for that matter any other big institutions where the donor is being done by one team and the recipient surgery is done by another team. That day I developed the confidence for doing two surgery at one go.

The team was quite courteous to offer me the launch just in the vicinity of OT complex. But my worries kept on increasing when I came to know the transplant ICU is not there they will be keeping the patient in post op recovery area with two sisters. I had my nightmare. So I told the patient Prahalad to keep the mobile phone with him and can call for any small complaints and issues . That is how I managed him over phone. That gave me some more confidence to do transplant outside the big institution environment. By Gods Grace he recovered uneventfully.

So I can’t forget this day 9 th June 2009.

He has completed 12 successful and healthy years by now.

He is very humble and affectionate boy.

I consider him as one of my family members.

When I see his missed calls or text message I curse myself that I could not take his call on time. Hoping there are no major problems. I text him at the earliest or call him back.

May God bless him and Pray for his good health.

I thank him and his family members for having tremendous trust on me.

His phone number is +91 94372 67895 and email is prahallada.muduli@gmail.com. He is willing to answer your queries and share his experiences with you all

I thank almighty for giving me such opportunity to serve.

  1. Hi Sir,
Thank you so much for all your hard work and support during his difficult time. Your humility, kindness and strength are greatly appreciated. And once again thanks a lot for your care, guidance and mental support which you have extended for my friend (Bau) and his Mother from last 12 years
and boosting up his confidence. Honestly saying, from bottom of my heart, after Parents if we have anyone in the society to say Thanks, he/she is non but an Honest Doctor, a person who is saving human life. “Life”, It is a special gift from God and No one can pay for it. And a big thanks to the Dr Sir, who suggested to meet the right doctor, in the right time and the Co-doctors who spent his effort, valuable time or experience to save his Life. No words..DR SIR,…Keep up your Good Works. I pray to the God, to make you Happy, Healthy and Safe. Actually I can’t thank you enough for all that you have done for my friend Bau and his Mother.

    Regards,
    Rajendra Samal
